List of shots etc. - Artemis

Opening Scene

First Setting - Hallway & Stairs.
  • Extreme long shot. Low angle shot. Main female character 'Myrtle' walking up the stairs in the hallway towards the attic. She is carrying a stack of photographs to put in storage. Straight cut to next shot.
Second Setting -Attic.
  • Medium close-up. Eye level. Myrtle walks through a door into the attic. We only see her enter the attic. Straight cut to next shot.
  • Over the shoulder shot. Medium long shot. Eye level. Myrtle walks towards a pile of boxes and crouches beside them. Straight cut to next shot.
  • Medium Close-up. Eye Level. Myrtle puts the stack of photos into the box closest to her. 
  • Big close-up. Eye level. Shot of Myrtles face, something has caught her eye. She has a slightly confused and surprised expression. Straight cut to next shot.
  • Back to a medium close-up. Eye level. Myrtle picks up out of the box a document and starts to read it.
  • Extreme close-up. Slight low angle.We see Myrtle's eye moving back and fourth as she reads the document. We see her change in expression from intrigue to being distraught. Straight cut to next shot.
  • Long shot. Eye level. Myrtle gets up and shoots out of the attic. Shot stays in the attic and pans down onto an extreme close-up of the document. This reveals to the audience that her son has been put in an mental institution. In the background we can hear Myrtle confront her husband 'George'. They have an argument. Straight cut to next shot.
Dialogue:
Myrtle - Where is my son?! (Raised voice)
George - What are you talking about?!
Myrtle - Tell me the truth! He didn't die did he?! DID HE!
George - He was very ill.
Myrtle - But he didn't die! You made him go away! You sent him away and lied to me!
George - It was the best thing for everyone.. he was very ill Myrtle.
Myrtle - All this time you had me thinking our son had died! It was all a lie! I have mourned a child that is still alive! How could you?!
George - I can't take this anymore.. I'm going out.
Myrtle - You can't just leave! I want my son! I need answers! You can't just leave.. (Breaks down into a floods of tears)

* At times part of the dialogue might be muffled to show they are moving around and having a heated argument. 
  • Medium close-up. Eye level. Myrtle is looking out a window. It is raining. Blurs out into second shot to show going back to the past. This is now a flashback. 
Second Scene

Third Setting - Garden.
  • Extreme long shot. Eye level. Young boy 'Benjamin' is Myrtle and George's son. He is pacing about in the garden with a ball of wool back and fourth, back and fourth. He is talking to someone who isn't there. Straight cut. 
  • Medium Close-up. Eye level. Benjamin is still pacing about, talking to himself. This is now more clear to the audience. Straight cut.
  • Close-up. Eye level. Myrtle is smiling watching Benjamin thinking he is playing. Straight cut.
  • Medium long shot. Eye level. We see Benjamin running towards his mother. Straight cut.
  • Medium Close-up. Slight high angle shot. Point of view shot of Myrtle looking down at Benjamin. Straight cut.
Dialogue:
Myrtle - What is it dear? (Close-up, Slight high angle)
Benjamin - Mama can Edward have Tea with us? (Medium Close-up, Slight low angle)
Myrtle - Who's Edward darling? A Friend from your school? Medium close-up, slight high angle)
Benjamin - No. He's here. Say hello Edward. (In a different voice) Hello Mam. (Big close-up, slight low angle.
(Benjamin is just staring now and infrequently blinking.)
  • Big close-up. Eye Level. Myrtle is wearing a confused expression. She doesn't say anything else. Straight cut. 
Fourth Setting -  Benjamen's Bedroom (Lighting will be quite bright)
  • Long shot. Eye level. Myrtle is cleaning some stuff in Benjamen's bedroom whilst he is sitting in the middle of the floor cross-legged. Straight cut.
  • Big close-up. Eye Level. Benjamin is making odd movements with his tongue and face. Straight cut.
  • Long shot. Eye Level. Myrtle notices her soon acting strangely. She leaves the room. Straight cut.
Fifth Setting - Hallway.
  •   Long shot. Eye Level. Myrtle walks into the hallway where George is standing looking at something.
Dialogue:
Myrtle - I'm afraid that something's terribly wrong with Benjamin. He's been acting very strange. Talking to himself and lost in though a lot of the time. It's not normal for a boy his age. (Medium Close-up. Eye level. Straight Cut.)
George - Yes I've noticed it myself. I'll take him to the doctors. (Medium Close-up. Eye Level. Straight cut.)
Benjamin! Come here son. (Long shot. Eye level. Straight cut.)
(Benjamin runs into the hallway)
Benjamin - Yes Papa?
George - Come with me son, were going out for a bit. Say goodbye to your mother. We'll be back soon dear.
(George grabs his coat and keys)
Benjamin - Goodbye mama. (Big close-up. Eye Level. Straight Cut.)
Myrtle - Goodbye darling. (Big Close-up. Eye Level. Straight cut.
(Benjamin and George walk out the front door.)

Third Scene
  • Scene blurs out into shot of Myrtle looking out the window. This is now back to the present. 
  • Medium Long shot. eye level. Myrtle is still looking out the window. Her voice is overlay-ed on top of the footage.
Dialogue:
Myrtle - That was the last time I saw my son. I said goodbye. But not properly... The moment George arrived back late that night, I knew something was terribly wrong. I could feel it.
  • Scene blurs back to the flashback. Long shot. Eye level. George walks into house through the front door. Takes off his hat and coat. Myrtle runs in.
  • Medium close-up. Eye level. Myrtle is confused.
Dialogue:
Myrtle - Where's Benjamin?
George - Darling... I'm so sorry. (Medium long shot. Eye level. Straight cut.)
Myrtle - What on earth are you sorry for? What happened?! Where's Benjamin?! (Medium close-up. Eye level. Straight cut.)
George - He was very ill. The doctor said he had a severe Brain tumor and he tried to operate but Benjamin died.. (Big close-up. Eye Level. Straight cut.)
(George breaks down)

  • Extreme close-up. Eye level. Myrtle holds an expression of despair and screams. She breaks down crying. Straight cut.
Fourth Scene
  • Long shot. Slight high angle. Point of view shot of George looking through a door that is slightly ajar at his wife. Myrtle is sitting on the floor in Benjamen's room dressed in all black. She is crying and packing some of his things into a box. She is unaware George is looking at her. Straight cut.
  • Big close-up. Eye level. We see George in pain. His expression is full of guilt and remorse. Shot blurs out.
 Fifth Scene
  • Shot blurs in. End of flashback. Medium long shot. Eye level. Myrtle is still looking out the window. A tear is running down her face. She runs off. Straight cut.
  • Long shot. Eye level. Myrtle runs into a room. She grabs a suitcase and starts chucking a few belongings into it. Straight cut. 
  • Long shot. Eye level. Myrtle runs into the hallway and out of the front door. Straight cut.
Sixth Setting - Mental Institution (Lighting will bright but there will be an eery atmosphere.)
  • Medium Long shot. Eye Level. Myrtle enters a hallway with another person, the Nurse. The Nurse indicates towards another door. Myrtle goes over and looks through a small window in the door. Straight cut.
  • Extreme long shot/Long shot. Slight high angle. Point of view shot. We just see benjamin sitting in the middle of a big plain room with his arms and legs crossed looking down. He is older now. Straight cut to credits.
